Hoos' List is a web-based service from UVA that provides our community an alternative resource for browsing class schedules, viewing historical enrollment, and planning academic journeys. Hoos' List is a complement to Stellic, UVA’s official advising platform, and the Student Information System (SIS), the main hub for class information and course registration.
Hoos' List was inspired by Lou’s List, a beloved website created by Lou Bloomfield, Professor Emeritus of Physics, in 2009 to provide an alternative solution for students and faculty wanting information about classes offered at UVA.

The Impact of Lou’s List
For more than 16 years, Lou Bloomfield maintained Lou’s List, a simple yet transformative tool that helped generations of UVA students navigate their academic journeys. Beyond its practical use in course planning, the site became a community resource — shaping decisions, guiding careers, and even influencing the University itself.

Transition Questions
- Why did Lou’s List change to Hoos' List?
Upon retirement, Lou Bloomfield, Professor Emeritus of Physics, partnered with UVA to transition Lou’s List into a UVA-supported version of the site, called Hoos' List. The goal of Hoos' List is to continue the service while bringing it under UVA branding and up to modern accessibility standards.
- How is Hoos' List different from Lou’s List?
The data that was available on Lou’s List is now available on Hoos' List. You may notice the data is presented in new ways that are intended to be more modern and accessible and align with source systems. For example, you will notice the UVA-branded color scheme, smart search capabilities, and enhanced mobile view. Note that some school/department names have changed to align with the names of record in SIS, users cannot download data, and course descriptions cannot be edited. While there are no plans to expand the scope of Hoos' List, the web development team will continue to make improvements that enhance the experience.
- What other class resources does UVA offer?
Our core UVA systems of record are the Student Information System (SIS) and Stellic. SIS is UVA’s official source for course data and is where students register for classes. Students can leverage Stellic to streamline course planning, explore different majors and minors, and connect with advisors. Advisors can use Stellic to collaborate across units to support students throughout their time at UVA, while ensuring the privacy of student information.
- Are there other official Hoos' List sites?
No, hooslist.virginia.edu is the official Hoos' List site, managed by UVA. Information from the site cannot be copied. Other sites that aggregate class and registration information are not affiliated with UVA and accuracy cannot be guaranteed.
